PLEASE GIVE EXACT AND ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS - 4Blinds2You.com ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY SUCH ERRORS IN ORDERING

Just read the easy to follow instructions for each of our available product ranges below. All you'll need is a tape measure (a metal one is best as cloth tapes can stretch). Please take care, accurate sizes are essential as all our products are made to your exact requirements.

Using your provided measurements and product selections, you'll receive a bespoke blind product to fit your window perfectly.

The first decision you need to make is "Do you want your blind to fit inside or outside of the window recess?". Fitting inside the window recess requires a 'Recess' measurement. Fitting outside of the window recess requires an 'Exact' measurement.

One thing to remember is that if the recess is less than 6.5 cm (2.5") deep, if your window opens inwards or if there are any other obstructions (air vents for example), then your blind must be fitted outside the recess.

VENETIAN BLINDS

(Recess)

Width- Measure the inside width of the window at the top middle and bottom. Use the narrowest width measurement.

Drop - Measure the height of the window at the left, centre and right. Use the shortest height measurement.

Then give us the width and height of the recess exactly. We will then allow the necessary working tolerances to ensure the blind operates perfectly within the window recess.

Please note that it is advisable to measure the width in several places, as stated above, and you should of course quote the lowest measurement for both width and drop.

Fitting a Venetian Blind Outside the Window Recess (Exact)

Width - Decide how much you wish the blind to overlap the recess at each side. To minimize light leakage it is recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by least 6.5 cm (2.5") each side.

Drop - When measuring the drop take into account the required space for the mounting bracket, a flat surface of a minimum 50mm is required.

When raised, the blind ideally should not obscure the window. Therefore blinds must be fixed high enough above top of window recess to allow for depth of headrail and bunched slats. To allow for this add 44mm (1.75") plus 12mm (0.5") for every foot of blind depth.

The overlap at the bottom of the blind is a matter of personal choice, but please take into account common obstacles such as radiators when measuring.

Control and Fixing Options

When measuring for Venetian blinds, pay attention to where the controls will be located. You have the option of locating the controls on either the left or right hand side of the blind. You also have the option of top fix brackets (which fix to the underside of a recess or ceiling) or face fix brackets (which fix onto a wall or window frame) during option selection.

ROLLER BLINDS

Width- Measure the inside width of the window at the top middle and bottom. Use the narrowest width measurement.

Drop - Measure the height of the window at the left, centre and right. Use the shortest height measurement.

Then give us the width and height of the recess exactly. We will then allow the necessary working tolerances to ensure the blind operates perfectly within the window recess.

Please note that it is advisable to measure the width in several places, as stated above, and you should of course quote the lowest measurement for both width and drop.

Fitting a Roller Blind Outside the Window Recess (Exact)

Width - Decide how much you wish the blind to overlap the recess at each side. To minimize light leakage it is recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by least 5 cm (2") each side.

Drop - When measuring the drop, take into account the required space for the mounting bracket, a flat surface of a minimum 50mm is required.

VERTICAL BLINDS

Width- Measure the inside width of the window at the top middle and bottom. Use the narrowest width measurement.

Drop - Measure the height of the window at the left, centre and right. Use the shortest height measurement.

Then give us the width and height of the recess exactly. We will then allow the necessary working tolerances to ensure the blind operates perfectly within the window recess.

Please note that it is advisable to measure the width in several places, as stated above, and you should of course quote the lowest measurement for both width and drop.

Fitting a Vertical Blind Outside the Window Recess (Exact)

Decide how much you wish to overlap the window at each side and top and bottom, then give us the total width and the total height in that order. We will make to your measurements without any tolerances.

Control, Stack and Fixing Options

When measuring for vertical blinds, pay attention to where the controls and stack will be located. Vertical blinds have two controls, the tilt chain and the draw cords. The tilt cords rotate the louvres through 180° and the draw cords draw the blind open and closed. These controls can be on the left or the right hand side of the blind. The draw cords are used to draw the louvres back, with a stacking location of either a left hand stack, right hand stack or an equal split of the stack from the centre. This selection needs to be specified when ordering.

Control and Fixing Options

When measuring for Roman blinds, pay attention to where the controls will be located. You have the option of locating the controls on either the left or right hand side of the blind. You also have the option of blackout lining and sidechain control (see image) for an additional charge.

CURTAINS

Standard guidance for calculating your window requirements is as follows:

For curtains situated on the outside of a window recess, calculate your pole/track size by overlapping your window recess by 15cm each side. Adding this 30cm (2 x 15 cm) to your recess size will give you your overall pole/track length.

Your pole/track would normally be positioned 10cm (4") above the top of your window recess. Curtain drops are normally either just below sill level, falling approximately 15cm (6") below the sill, or floor-length, skimming the floor with approximately 1cm clearance.

To obtain your finished drop, measure from the top edge of the pole to the required drop of your choice (see illustration).

The standard recommendations for eyelet curtains are based on your track size plus 50% fullness, so when the curtains are in the closed position they are not flat and tight but have a certain amount of movement and gather, the calculations below have been based upon 50% fullness using the maximum pole length listed; therefore pole sizes at the start of each table will have more than 50% fullness.  These tables are for guidance only and as always fullness is a personal preference and is subject to what the individual finds aesthetically pleasing.
